Poor fing, it's hurt its paw. Must be where it was caught.

[Gently, wary of being bitten or clawed, Break reaches into the box. Instead of striking, the kitten mewls at him and reaches out one of its own paws for his hand. Chuckling, he picks it up gently and cradles it close to his chest, putting the box to one side in favor of taking a look at the kitten's foot. Darling, indeed.]

This'll need tending. [He glances over his shoulder at his bathroom door.] D'you mind if I use your baffroom, or shall I try to find anovver? I'm not sure how Galahad will react to anovver cat.

[agonies]

Ah... [Gilbert is not around, for now, but she's unsure when he'll be back. Still she should not make this task difficult for Break as she asked him to help her.] It's all right if you use mine. Just...don't let it go in my room.

[Where it can find some small place to hide.]

'Course not. It shouldn't take long; these look to just be nasty scratches, is all.

[He's careful to restrain the kitten firmly as they start off, but it's mostly for Gilbertine's benefit.]

[agonies]

[Gil follows behind so she doesn't need to see the kitten, except for when she opens the door. Spotless as usual, with a very nicely made bed.]

Ah, do you need supplies?

Just some peroxide and a little bit of bandaging, I fink. [Carefully, he feels out the paw; the kitten pulls it away, but doesn't flinch or cry out.] Nuffing's broken, it's all surface stuff. But I don't want to leave 'em open.

[agonies]

Those are in the cabinet by the sink. [She opens a window and has a smoke.]

[Break side-eyes her as he heads into the bathroom; it is her room, and she does have a window open, but.]

You really ought to quit those awful fings. They're gonna make you horribly sick someday, you know. They probably already are.

[agonies]

I know. [She sighs; she's quit before of course but she always seems to go back to them.]

[almost_knightly]

[He's quiet for a moment, pausing in his search within the medicine cabinet. The other Gilbert hadn't taken this well, but -- Gilbertine has a much sounder head on her shoulders, from what he's seen. So.]

My Gilbert was able to quit, when he was about your age.

[The kitten meows curiously, and he gets back to what he was doing.]

[agonies]

As in, for good? [Break is right-- she sounds hopeful. Then again, she also doesn't know about the source of his lung cancer.]

Yeah. When I got sick he managed to convince himself it was at least partly his fault, because I'd been around him while he smoked. It wasn't his fault, but -- well. [His tone turns wry.] You know what Gils are like. I guess finking that was the last push he needed.

[That's not the same as saying "cigarettes cause lung cancer, which, as you recall, cost me a lung." Right? Right.]

[agonies]

Why would he think that? [She doesn't understand how Gilbert thinks really-- which may be amusing, but Break could also likely admit he also rarely gets his alternates' thought processes. Cigarettes, smoking, illness...

Oh god it's dawning on her, quick do something Break! D:]

[Break can hear the gears in your head turning, Gillie, and so he pops his head out of the bathroom to glower at her. He looks very threatening indeed with the tiny orange kitten cuddled up on his shoulder, too.]

Because he -- like the rest of you, I've noticed -- was once arrogant enough to honestly believe that everyfing that ever went wrong in front of him just had to be his fault.

[agonies]

Arrogant? [Gil doesn't think much of her self really, and arrogant is about the last word she use for--

Oh, wait. Gilbert and his dick-waving at Glen Baskerville, when he had totally ignored her attempts to handle the situation. She deflates a little.]

It's not meant to be so, it's just concern.

[almost_knightly]

Yeah, well, the last fing I needed at the time was to have to try and talk my Gilbert out of believing he had single handedly caused a tumor to grow in my lung. Pretty sure I failed. We never did really stop being awkward wiv each ovver after that.

[Break disappears into the bathroom again.]

But at least he finally quit smoking. Oscar quit then, too.

[agonies]

[Gil is just silent for a long time after that, not sure what to say. She does at least put her cigarette out.]

...Is the cat all right?

[Because like most things she doesn't know how to handle, she'll just ignore and waylay them for as long as she can.]

Absolutely peachy.

[It -- she, it turns out -- is already playing with him, in fact, chasing his fingers all over the sink when he runs them along. Picking her up again, he carefully replaces the things he'd borrowed from the medicine cabinet, and runs a hand through his hair before he leaves the bathroom again.

He really doesn't want to alienate any more Gils. Truth be told, he rather misses his.]

I'm gonna go cook up a bit of fish for her. Galahad needs to be fed, too. If you'd like to come along.

[agonies]

--Cook it? Isn't it better for them to have it raw?

[She's glad he dropped the subject. She wouldn't have known what to say anyway, and she can ignore her stomachache.]

Fish, I prefer to cook. Not as well as humans would need, but Galahad at least prefers it warmer, and it's only a treat anyway.

[The new orange kitten is looking around, bright and energetic despite her injury, ears flicking back and forth. Catching sight of the ring on a chain around Break's neck, she reaches up to attempt to paw at it. He holds her back, smiling a bit -- he's already fond of her.]

[agonies]

[It's the first time Gil has really noticed the ring. She stares at it for a few seconds but as usual does not pry. Oddly enough she's walking next to him, in sight of the kitten.]

You really spoil them.

My cats spoil me. It's only fair.

[He keeps a firm hold on the new one as they go, even if Gilbertine does seem more comfortable now. He gets a feeling this one's going to be one of those kittens who gets into everything it is possible for a kitten to get into, and if she gets loose, well.]

[agonies]

Fn. I've never had a pet really, but lately... [She hesitates but continues delicately--] Lately Gilbert has had this small dragon following him around. He says it's a Vincent's but ever since he showed it to me it's been hanging around me too sometimes.

[almost_knightly]

You've met the dragon? [Break demands instantly.] I wanted to meet it but it was wiv a Vincent, and I don't get on very well wiv Vincents.

[Maybe if it's latched onto the Gils now he can meet the dragon without having to get past Vincent. Break makes a note of this for later.]

Pets are -- they're wonderful to have, though. There's nuffing like spending a cold winter night reading wiv a purring cat curled up against you, happy just 'cause you're there.

[agonies]

Yeah it's...around frequently. [It sleeps in their bed, begs for scraps, tries to crawl into shirts--

She shrugs.]

It's strange that it seems happy to see me sometimes, but I also feed it often.

I would imagine feeding a dragon is a good way to endear yourself to it, yes.

[Reaching the staircase, Break pauses to slide down the bannister, as usual.]

Is it playful at all?
