"And whyyyyy not?" Break demands, rejecting a box of something that looks like it is healthy and full of fiber. "They're fun to dismantle and they come in festive seasonal colors and, should you dip them in milk, they are actually quite comforting."
Oh, pish posh; he hasn't made that much of a mess. He's just knocked several boxes out of alignment and turned a few cans upside down.
"A lot of what I seem to like best is supposedly for children." He pouts and hops up to sit on the countertop, crossing his arms in a sulk. "Who cares who it's meant for if it's good?"
To Knave, however, who has a neat streak a mile wide, it's almost a criminal offence. His canned goods weren't in alphabetical order any longer and that needed to be fixed.
"It is ten in the evening," he reminds him, patiently, crossing the kitchen to reach behind him and right the boxes. "The only places open now are..."
He trails off. He doesn't know, exactly, probably because he's never gone shopping for his own food before.
How convenient, that Knave should decide to stand right there. Now Break doesn't have to move in order to start wheedling and cajoling and trying to get his way.
"Knaaaa-aaaave," Break says, chidingly, reaching out to wrap his legs around the other man's waist and pull him close. "We live in a city; there'll be places open till at least two." He cuddles up to Knave's chest, all warm and snuggly. "Hell, even the nice grocery store where the respec'able people shop is open till midnight. We could totally go~"
He presses his lips together into a line as he places the corn next to the corned beef, unfazed by their proximity, and trying very hard to be unaffected by Break's pleading. (Not whining, he's feeling faintly charitable.)
"Can this not wait until morning? I will have some bought." He isn't meeting Break's eye, because then he'll blush and feel awkward because what do people do in grocery stores, anyway?
He'd better be feeling charitable after what they were doing earlier. To help remind him, Break nuzzles into Knave's throat and kisses the skin there, gently.
"Did you know I have hypoglycemia? That's why I'm always nibbling on fings at work; if I go too long wivout food I crash and pass out." It could be a guilt trip, except that he's actually not lying at all -- it's a serious problem. "I really do need to have some snack food if I'm gonna stay around here much longer."
He contemplates this briefly, hands sliding down to rest on Break's shoulders as he tips his head to the side, accommodating. Come to think about it, should he be really leaving food for wild animals (such as the annoyingly affectionate Xerxes Break) in his condominium...
"Well." He says, slowly. "I will be the one driving this time."
Break relaxes minutely when Knave accepts his touches. This is all new enough still that he's not really sure what he's doing, either; whether or not the other man actually wants him around, or whether he should still be here at all regardless of how Knave might feel about it. For now, at least, he smiles against his throat and lets his tongue slide across the pulse.
"You'd have driven before, too, if you hadn't been drinking," Break murmurs. The implication being, of course, that Break would have been willing to follow him home that night either way.
He doesn't quite have enough concentration to contemplate that, right now, because Break is being distracting. His hands slide down to settle on Break's hips as he turns his head to whisper hotly in his ear:
"I do a lot of fings like a demon, or so I've been told."
His own arms slide up Knave's sides so that he can curl his hands over his shoulders, happy. He's distracting, yes, but in his defense, he really does thrive on affection.
He means to add that a lot of students go there at strange times, thus the hours; but the proximity to his throat distracts him in turn and he tilts his head back for him, submissively.
And quickly it does happen, as he leans up for a kiss and their hands wander further.
Knave's faintly smug when they finally do get around to heading towards his car, one of his scarves wound around Break's neck. It's nearly fifteen past eleven and well, the store's probably deserted around this hour. Right?
Break, meanwhile, is in that warm, dozey, abnormally cooperative mood he gets into when he doesn't get to nap right after sex. Bereft of all the cuddles he'd like, he's contenting himself playing with the end of the scarf instead. When they get to the car he somehow manages to drape himself across the passenger seat, a bit rumpled and still smelling faintly of coconut.
"I know where everyfing is in this store," he says, sounding content as can be. "It won't take us long."
Knave arches a brow silently at him, eyes lifting to look out the back window as he backs the car out of his parking space and starts driving out into the night.
"What are you looking to buy? Aside from...Oreos."
"Oh, wheaty crackers, nuts, yogurt. A bit of juice in case I do get shaky. Cheese."
Unexpectedly healthy, all things considered -- all the sugar he is seen eating is a supplement to his diet, not anywhere close to the entirety of it. Knave will probably be quite dismayed once he realizes just how much this man actually eats.
"So as long as you know what you are getting," he says, faintly suspicious, stopping and going and following traffic rules like he's supposed to set an example for Break.
If Break knew Knave was thinking that he'd get a very flat look and, depending on Break's mood, either lectured or taken horrible advantage of. As it is, though, Break's a bit too dreamy to argue with him at the moment. So he shrugs, instead.
"If it pleases you, I s'pose. But then I want to take you out to the restaurants I like. This next weekend, let's definitely go out for brunch."
